Autoimmune Diseases-Lupus/Multiple Sclerosis/Crohn’s Disease/Ulcerative Colitis

Autoimmune disease is the body’s immune system attacking itself, resulting in inflammation and destruction of the involved tissue. Many diseases are in this category, including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, vasculitis (inflammation of the vessels), nephritis (inflammation of the kidneys), and auto-immune hepatitis (inflammation of the liver). Although conventional medicine attempts to put out the fire using medications that may have serious side effects, no attempt is made to determine and treat the underlying cause of the fire.

Our Approach

At EcoLogical Internal Medicine, we address the underlying cause of your body attacking itself. Research indicates environmental toxins contribute to autoimmune disease. We help you minimize the effects of environmental toxins through Environmental Medicine and environmental education. We provide personalized diet assessment and healthy diet plans to help you increase nutrient dense, anti-inflammatory foods in your diet. We address and eliminate food sensitivities from your diet as research indicates a link between food sensitivities and autoimmune disease. We also prescribe vitamins and nutritional supplements to correct nutrient deficiencies associated with autoimmune disease. We may use intravenous nutrients, which go into the blood stream and directly address the site of inflammation.

Osteopathic Medicine may be used to optimize nutrient and oxygen delivery to the tissue and enhance toxin removal from tissue. We also work with you using Mind-Body Medicine to address the connection between the body’s attack on itself and past traumas, both physical and emotional, and use breathing exercises and meditation to help your condition.
